BROWNS BLOW BATTLE
TO CONTINUE
IN TREASURE HUNTERS
The Brown family, despite an unplanned break when graduate student Jessica Schilling was seriously injured, could not navigate a final clue and artifact before their opponents and were eliminated Monday night from NBC's Treasure Hunters.
Terry, Tonny and Keith Brown expressed disappointment at their loss. Monday's second edition saw the teams awakened at 2:20 a.m. to begin a 20-mile navigation of the Missouri River in Montana en route to their next clue for the ultimate treasure.
The Browns said their journey required nearly 14 hours and they experienced a two-hour delay when two of them toppled over in their canoe.
Unfortunately for NBC, ratings declined from the two-hour premiere which finished 17th for the week in 18-49 age demographics. Fast national Nielsens gave Treasure Hunters a 3.6/8 overall rating, third in its time slot, and a 2.5 in 18-49s, down 16 percent from last week and only slightly above CBS's struggling Game Show Marathon.
Terry and Tonny Brown discuss their disappointment in an audio interview with TVgameshows.net which has a considerable amount of humor. This week's Part 2 segment features a continuation of last week's Cover Story with Treasure Hunters host Laird Macintosh.

REGIS PHILBIN TAPPED
FOR TELEVISION ACADEMY
HALL OF FAME
Seven years after he changed the face of television by asking "is that your final answer?" and giving away television's first $1 million solo jackpot, Regis Philbin is receiving an ultimate jackpot.
The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced Monday Philbin is one of five inductees for 2006 into the ATAS Hall of Fame.
Philbin joins retired NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw, director James Burrows, producer and former ABC executive Leonard Goldberg and actor William Shatner, who played several game shows over the years.
In a broadcasting career which spans more than 50 years, the 74-year-old Philbin reached a prime time pinnacle when he was selected to host ABC's Who Wants to Be a Millionaire in August 1999. The show garnered the three top spots in the Nielsen prime time ratings in 1999-2000, unprecedented for a game show in television history.
In 2001, Philbin was awarded a Daytime Emmy for Millionaire because of a quirk in academy competitive rules.
He is a multiple Emmy winner for his Regis and Kathie Lee and Regis and Kelly daytime talk show which originated locally in New York as The Morning Show in the mid-1980s. Philbin did earlier syndicated shows for Westinghouse and Metromedia and helmed a short-lived half-hour morning show for NBC.
In 1976, he did his only game show prior to Millionaire, The Neighbors for ABC. Concurrently, he was a field reporter for the network's prime time Almost Anything Goes.
His previous network expusure was as the announcer/sidekick on The Joey Bishop Show from 1967-69. In a celebrated incident in 1968, Philbin dramatically walked off the show, saying he knew some executives at the network wanted him off the broadcast. One week later, Philbin returned, prompting some to suggest the matter was a publicity stunt to prop up Bishop's sagging ratings. He stayed through the remainder of the series and hosted the final two episodes in December 1969, a month after Bishop left his own show after receiving news of its cancellation.
This week, Philbin begins yet another prime time venture as host of NBC's America's Got Talent, the creation of Simon Cowell, which is also ticketed for a midseason slot on the network's lineup.
