RICKI BUBBLES
IN SUNDAY'S
COVER STORY
When CBS's Game Show Marathon premieres Wednesday night, no one will be under more pressure but demonstrate more enthusiasm for the task as host Ricki Lake.
Sunday night, in TVgameshows.net's Cover Story audio interview, Lake says she and the show's producers intend to pay homage to every one of the seven classic game show formats in the series.
"This had to be the most challenging assignment of my life----to do one show and then tear down the set and do a completely different show three days later," Lake said in the interview. "But this was the most fun I've ever had. I was a fan of all of these shows, except one. I never saw Beat the Clock growing up but after I saw the old films on Game Show Network, I saw how great Bud Collyer was."
Lake said she has come away from the project with "enormous respect" for the emcees who originated these shows. Opening night will call six celebrities to "come on down" to play The Price Is Right. Subsequent episodes will include Let's Make a Deal, Beat the Clock, Press Your Luck, Card Sharks, Match Game and Family Feud.
"Monty Hall is an absolute genius," Lake said. "So is Bob Barker. I do not know how they have done what they do all of these years. I'm in awe."
Former Trading Spaces host Paige Davis will be joined as a celebrity player by singer Lance Bass, actor Leslie Nielsen ("Police Squad," "Airplane," "The Naked Gun"), Tim Meadows (Saturday Night Live), Kathy Najimy ("Sister Act") and Brande Roderick (Baywatch). The performers will win cash and prizes for home viewers.
"A lot of loving care has gone into this and I think the viewers will go crazy when they hear the music and see the sets and see how much has been done to re-create these shows as people remember them," Lake said.

IDOL FINAL RATINGS:
BIGGEST CROWD EVER...
WELL, ALMOST...MAYBE?

Taylor Hicks' improbable rise to the fifth American Idol championship drew the largest audience for a finale in the series' history. Or did it?
Fox is making the claim with the 36.4 million viewers who tuned in for the entire two hours Wednesday night. Hicks wrested the crown from Californian Katharine McPhee after soundly topping the 22-year-old in two out of three numbers during Tuesday's final performance showdown.
The problem: the Ruben Studdard-Clay Aiken finale officially still rates as the most watched windup with 38 million viewers. The reason: in 2003, Fox asked Nielsen to only count the 9-10 p.m. hour as the actual finale. The 8-9 p.m. slot was termed an American Idol special that year.
However, technically, the Hicks-McPhee finish can be classified the most-watched two-hour season-ender for Idol and the top non-sports broadcast in the network's history.
In total ratings, Idol scored a 20.0/31 and a dominant 14.2 in 18-49 age adults, though down from the 16.2 for Studdard-Aiken.
