WHAT'S MY LINE? LIVE ON STAGE
The game was revived in 2005 as a live stage show at Los Angeles' ACME comedy theatre by former Beat the Geeks host J. Keith van Straaten and producer Jim Newman as a loving tribute to the classic series. While adding a touch of contemporary style, the production is true to the original. The elegant dress of the old Sunday-at-10:30 on CBS version is part of the mix. Van Straaten brought the stage version to Game Show Congress 5 in July 2006 at the Hilton Burbank. I've Got a Secret legend Betsy Palmer headlined the panel, along with Street Smarts host Frank Nicotero, The Better Sex and Real People co-host Sarah Purcell and Shokus Video owner and television historian Stu Shostak. Among the evening's lines: The Price Is Right model Gabrielle Tuite, whose line was a tanning salon owner; and 86-year-old Jean Desmond, who challenged the original Sunday night panel 52 years ago as a girdle tester. The surprise mystery guest: television and movie musical legend Shirley Jones, who stumped the panel. Her husband, former actor/comedian and agent Marty Ingels, entered from backstage after the game ended. Acting as van Straaten's foil for the evening: actress Teresa Ganzel, a frequent Pyramid player in the '80s, who brought down the house with her live commercial for real estage agent Remo Packer. __________________________
